During the Homeland War, in late 1991 and early 1992, the Rector’s Palace was hit by eight large-caliber projectiles, which causedserious damage and visibly undermined the structural integrity of the building itself. The palace suffered great physical damage and severe deformation of the system construction, puncture of roofs, ceilings and walls and the destruction of the premises and the related inventory.
Most of the roof was destroyed, the street facade was broken, there was damage to the interior, and the inventory was destroyed. Large cracks in the masonry testified to the deformation of the structure of the building. Ceiling decorations - plastering were completely destroyed on the premises of the north wing and severely damaged in the southwing.
The building was unfit for any use.
